As we close out Women\u2019s History Month 2022, the Women\u2019s Committee once again shines a light on some of the historical profiles depicting women in our IA history and Labor\u2019s history overall.<\/p>\n

Our goal was to educate our members on the rich \u201cherstories\u201d that have made it possible for each of us to walk a smoother path to victory.<\/p>\n

We showcased sisters from Sag-Aftra, ACTWU, and AMC and BU in addition to our #IATSEWomenUP! For the first time in the history of the Labor Movement, we honored the first woman President of the AFL-CIO, Sister Liz Shuler.<\/p>\n

Because of the scheduling of the Winter General Executive Board, we were able to truly celebrate International Women\u2019s Day together and in person. We participated with Internationalwomensday.com and adopted this year\u2019s theme – #BreaktheBias.<\/p>\n

At our Women\u2019s Committee Event on March 8, we captured pictures of the attendees showing their #BreaktheBias stance. The event included a presentation about the efforts of \u201cMonumental Women\u201d, an organization working diligently to include statues in public venues of women who made history from all walks of life. Thank you to our sister, Eileen MacDonald, Local One Trustee, \u00a0for serving on the MW Board and connecting us to women across the country promoting this movement. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Our goal as a Women\u2019s Committee and as full participants in our society at large is to welcome the day when we no longer have to remind people that women have played integral roles in our history, a day when Women\u2019s History is no longer an afterthought, a day when Women\u2019s History is celebrated throughout the year.<\/p>\n
